The Legacy

The History of Team Shake N Bake

It all started with Jeff Dickert. Jeff started riding the MS City to Shore in 2006 at the encouragement of fellow rider, Jim Nanfeldt, who retired from these rides in 2019 after raising $40,000 plus over 20 rides. In all but one year when they rode together, Jeff and Jim encouraged each other to ride the Century loop (100 miles) on day one.

Between 2006 and 2021 Jeff did 15 rides and raised over $29,000 to rid the world of MS. Though the ride was officially cancelled twice, once by a hurricane and once due to COVID, Jeff, undeterred, road his own 150-mile routes through NJ’s horse country and Pine Barrens. In 2020, with the help of many of Jim Nanfeldt’s supporters, Jeff raised $4,773, his top figure, which earned him rider number ‘69’ in 2021, which meant he was the 69 th top fundraiser that year.

Since it's founding in 2019 Jeff has been proud to be a member of Team Shake ‘N Bake, riding with the two TIMS, his son (6 prior rides) and son-in-law (5 prior rides). Our team motto, “If you ain’t first, you’re last,” is meaningless to us. We love riding together and supporting one another. We also enjoy Will Ferrell movies.

Jeff, whose personal motto is, “Keep Moving,” is also responsible for guilting his family into participating in Jeff’s Umpteenth Annual (Family) Turkey Trot for the past 10 or so years. Jeff, though never much of a couch potato, did not start cycling or running until his 50’s. He is now retired and had worked as an administrator in physical and mental health care programs and a social worker in the public sector.
